If I could spend my time here on Earth as a perpetual student I would learn all kinds of skills and hobbies like glass blowing, book binding, chuck-wagon racing, welding, gardening, pasta-making, competitive weight-lifting, and bread baking. Because I cannot and am notoriously horrible at gardening, I am passionately putting my MBA to use helping build radical resilience in families across the globe, one super hero at a time.
I am an avid reader and you can usually tell what I’m reading based on my current interests in life. At one point I read a bunch of books about children who had been raised in the foster care system. Five adoptions later, my family has expanded to one husband, three step-children, five adopted children, one part-time foster baby, all of the children’s bio-family (who we also adopted), and Solomon, our man-sized German Shepherd. In theory we are done, but an ingrained need to serve and help others may prove otherwise.
It has definitely been a blessing to have parents and the biological family of our children who want to play such a major role in our family’s lives. Even with the support of our eclectic little village, we barely manage slightly controlled chaos as we strive to help our children feel the importance of family and living a goal-oriented and productive life. I’m still working on that myself.
I love adventure and travel, and learning about new cultures and perspectives. I believe that we are meant to see as many of God’s wonders and creations as possible and that the Gospel can be found in every good thing we learn. We should always be learning and progressing. I have a strong testimony of this, as well as the atonement and am thankful for the influence the Spirit continues to have in my life and experiences, both good and difficult. He lives and He has a plan for me and my little entourage. It continues to be exciting and sometimes daunting to learn what that plan is, but we continue moving forward in faith.
