Ginny
Ginny Sparks retired from a successful 40+ year career as an Operating Room Nurse. She is also an author and artist of a children’s
book, “The Adventures of Sunflower Girl: Grandmother and the Bull", based on her upbringing on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Northern Arizona.
Ginny does not know the exact date of her birth but according to her Mother and Grandmother, she was born on a Fall morning when the
sunflowers were in bloom. She was named “Sunflower Girl” or “Nidiyilii Ateed”.
Ginny endured many hardships in her life, including being kidnapped at a young age, forced to go to the BIA school, and being punished when she spoke her native language.
Ginny’s love of nature and her knowledge of medicinal plants were gifts from her life
on the reservation and from the wisdom of her Grandmother.
Ginny has embraced the Navajo rug weaving art that her mother taught her. She took her life experiences and incorporated her knowledge to guide desert hikes for Red Mountain Spa and Resort, in St. George, Utah, and Zion National Park.
